FOI - Fenland District Council - Investment in Fossil Fuels

Many local councils are beginning to divest in fossil fuels. We asked Fenland District Council about their fossil fuel interests via a Freedom of Information submission, here is their response:

 

Dear Karen,

Thank you for your request for information received on 31st August 2015, which has been processed and the information attached 

Does Fenland District Council invest direct in Fossil Fuel Companies? (This includes any pension funds you may hold)

No

Does Fenland District Council have a policy on Fossil Fuel Investment?

No

Does Fenland District Council subsidise or accept funding from fossil fuel companies?

No

Who does Fenland District Council do their day to day banking with? And does this bank invest in Fossil Fuels?

Barclays Bank. We not aware of Barclays investment stance on investment in Fossil Fuels.

Thank you for your response. given that a quick google search will show you that Barclays Bank are one of the biggest investors in Fossil Fuels would you like some time to revisit your answers?

Dear Karen,

Thank you for your email.  In light of that further information the following two answers would read:

Does Fenland District Council subsidise or accept funding from fossil fuel companies?

Not directly. However, it does deposit funds with banks who lend money to fossil fuel companies.

Who does Fenland District Council do their day to day banking with? And does this bank invest in Fossil Fuels?

Barclays Bank and Yes.
