One of the so-called baby boomers from the sixties, Liz has been passionate about the countryside for as long as she can remember. A member of Parish Council and a charity worker for animals, she believes that the new awareness of nature and the environment is the way forward for our children's future and that we can have a strong economy by new technologies and using IT for the good of everyone. Nature is also our future and biodiversity is the key to future food and farming while taking more control of our lives through working together for the future and our community is vital. Liz works full time and has done so since she was 15, beginning in retail and gaining qualifications through part time college course (free then now barely available) and then through the then subsidised Open University which is now out of most people's reach. Liz cares about everyone and believes everyone should all have the equal right to education and work - not the case here in Fenland.
My family and I live in Manea where we have an active and caring community. People look out for each other. My children attend the local school and we use the local doctor. As you can imagine, my family and I also spend a lot of time in Chatteris socialising, shopping, and enjoying the amazing food (seriously, what an impressive variety).
I am calling on the council to put in place a number of policies to aid small, independently owned businesses and encourage consumers to "buy local." We need pot holes to be repaired, drains to be improved, and the development of inward investment, as well as pushing for more frequent trains and buses so we have more opportunities to leave the car at home. We must save Wenney Road Meadow. The Wenny Road Meadow is one of the few remaining green spaces in the area, and it is essential to preserve natural habitats. I am passionate about protecting our natural environment, wildlife, and public health.
Steven is also standing as a parish councillor.
I moved to Chatteris around five years ago but have lived in the Eastern Region all my life. I also work in Chatteris for Royal Mail so I get to interact with the residents almost every day and it means I know where all the potholes are!
I chose to join the Green Party because their values predominantly align with my own and I think they offer serious opportunities to improve our local environments for the benefit of everyone. Local businesses are vital for growth, prosperity, social interaction and a collective pride in where we live and I would be keen to listen to and work with them where possible.
I love getting out in the fresh air and would like to see better, safer options for people to cycle or walk between Chatteris and March. I would also like to see more urban 'dead areas' reclaimed for the planting of trees, shrubs, and communal domains.
I am standing as a Green Party candidate because I feel that the party genuinely wishes to represent the interests of the wider public including minority groups such as the disabled. Being totally blind myself, I have direct experience of inequality and I know how minority groups can largely be ignored and are often hit by measures where no adjustments are taken into account for those who simply cannot fit in to them, (as we have clearly seen with Covid). Disabled people need proper help and support and to be included in society.
We need much better public transport facilities in Fenland. This would give those with disabilities more options and access to places, better independence, as well as more general benefits to all. As a horse owner and rider I am keen to see more access for equestrians and a better network of off-road tracks which actually link places together and provide horse riders with an alternative option than using the roads.
I am a former Cambridgeshire Shop Owner who has retired to Whittlesey after visiting regularly for The Stawbear Festival and I still participate as a Morris Dancer. Should you elect me as a Green Party Councillor I will listen to your needs and act for you to make Whittlesey a safer, greener and better place to live for all.
I am a university student who has lived in March for 13 years. I have recently kindled an interest in politics and joined my local Green Party. I am standing as a Green Party candidate because I have a passion for the environment and I think it's time for some fresh ideas. A lot of young people do not vote as we are rarely represented in politics. As part of my campaign for a greener fenland, I want to make public transport more available and affordable. When attending college in Cambridge I took the train, which cost over £500 a term for my ticket. This is one of the most expensive rail links in the country and it lacks in its number of services, running just one train an hour. Many families cannot afford this and so learning opportunities are restricted. Reducing costs like these will take more cars off the road and open up new opportunities for young people.
I feel privileged to live in Manea where we have such an active and caring community and people look after each other. I moved to the area with my husband and children whilst attending the University of Cambridge. March has a lot of great services and attractions that can be made even better with more support. As a Researcher for a global leader in market research I feel that I have the necessary skills needed to help improve the quality of life for our residents, by working towards enhancing services for things such as repairing pot holes, improving drains, developing inward investment, and pushing for more frequent trains and buses so we have more opportunities to leave the car at home. There are also green ways to save money; planting wild flowers on road verges has helped to save one council approximately £23,000 for each two year cycle. We can have a brighter future together.
For first time, the people of Chatteris will have the opportunity to vote Green Party in the County Council elections. The Green Party stands for environmental responsibility, social justice and equality leading to healthier, safer and above all, better lives for everyone. Chatteris needs it's environmental heritage and green spaces protected along with vast improvements in sustainable, active and alternative transport. I would like to see a massive improvement in publicly funded public transport along with a network of safe and convenient cycle routes linking both key areas in town and connecting Chatteris to March and local villages. 20mph speed limits in residential areas and better priority for those on foot are popular with residents and high on the Green Agenda. Over the past 12 months we have seen a massive reduction in motor traffic leading to cleaner air, healthier lives and safer streets. I feel it is now time to push forward with a Greener future and not risk going back to how it was before.

Better public transport, sustainable travel, education and opposition to the Wisbech incinerator are the top priorities for Green Party candidate, Councillor Ruth Johnson.
Councillor Johnson is a well respected councillor of March Town Council and recently won a national award for promoting sustainable travel through a government supported initiative. "I believe a better public transport system across Fenland is desperately needed and re-opening Wisbech railway station is crucial to the regeneration of the region and will open opportunities for jobs. Better public transport leads to better sustainable travel and healthier lifestyles and car dependency contributes to congestion, road danger and air pollution whilst reducing physical activity".
The Green Party wants change. We want to see Greens elected into our council chambers for a greener, more caring future. We need to have climate change in mind as we all know this is urgently needed. NHS - there should be no profit motive in our healthcare system and everyone has the right to free services. We must protect and improve our NHS; our much loved key workers deserve to be treated fairly and with respect.
Regarding the unpopular, proposed Wisbech Incinerator, "I strongly oppose the Wisbech incinerator on many levels; the location, it's ridiculous size and the pollution of the surrounding agricultural area. This incinerator must not go ahead and I will fight tooth and nail to see this stopped".
As a local teaching assistant and tutor, Ruth believes education should be about nurturing potential and inspiring a love of learning and that all children should receive the basic elements of a good childhood, a decent place to live, safety and security in their home and green spaces to play outside of school.
If ever there was a time to vote Green, it's now.
I was born in March, Cambridgeshire and have lived and worked here most of my life as a freelance musician / music tutor. I became more interested in politics around 2018 as I found myself increasingly concerned with the environmental and social issues facing us. I didn’t feel these issues were being addressed nationally or locally, so I joined the Green Party as their policies aligned closely with my own personal ideals.
Since being elected to March Town Council in May 2019 I have worked closely with other councillors irrespective of any political differences in order to find common ground and achieve the best possible outcome for our local community and environment. To this end I have worked with a number of community groups and joined committees including the March and District Woodland Group which I now chair and later this year I’m due to become chairman of Friends of Rings End Nature Reserve Committee. Together these groups manage all of the nature reserves and woodland areas in March.
Conservation is one of my biggest passions and as a result over the past two years I have overseen and personally funded projects which have seen the planting of over 2000 indigenous trees in our area.
One of the biggest challenges we face is flooding, especially here in the Fens. The conservation projects I envisage for the future will not only help to offset carbon emissions but will also help reduce the level of flooding.
I believe I have the knowledge, experience and commitment to not only oversee policies that will enhance our local community, environment and social well being, but to work directly with you as part of our community to achieve meaningful lasting results.
The only way we can offer the opportunity to vote Green Party is to is to stand local election candidates.
Green Party election candidates come from our pool of Green Party members so this means having Green Party members putting themselves forward to stand for election.
With this in mind, we are building a list of Fenland Green Party members who are willing to stand for election.
A willingness to help is more important than anything else.
There will be some paperwork to complete and we can help with that. There will be no cost to the candidate or any costs will be met by us. There will be no requirement to attend meetings, hold interviews, make speeches, or knock on doors but by standing as a Green Party candidate will allow others to vote Green Party.
If you are not already a member of the Green Party please join here: join.greenparty.org.uk
Then email: secretary@fenland.greenparty.org.uk saying that you wish to be added to the election candidate list. We will alert you as any opportunity arises.
